Painting is mostly preparation
The paint is the last twenty percent of a paint job. The first eighty is deciding what needs to be fixed, scraped, patched, sanded, caulked and primed. Most painters can roll paint on a wall. What separates a lasting paint job from a disappointing one is whether the wall was ready for it, and whether anyone noticed the crack, the stain or the loose paint underneath.
Painting in the Kyle area has two sides. Outside, Texas sun and heat fade and chalk exterior paint, especially on south and west walls and trim, and humidity and rain can cause peeling around windows and doors. Inside, the issue is more often what the wall looks like before the paint: patches from remodels, hairline cracks from settling soil and texture that does not match from one wall to the next.
That is why drywall experience matters to a painter. Nearly 25 years in construction means we recognize when a wall needs repair or finishing before it takes paint, and we can do that work ourselves. Our painting service lives on the house painting page below.

Inside or outside: how to decide what to paint first
Start outside if you see peeling, bare wood or failing caulk, because water gets in through those gaps and causes damage that paint alone cannot fix. Start inside when walls have been repaired or remodeled, since new patches and bare drywall need primer and paint to be finished.
If you plan to sell, entry areas, kitchens and the main living spaces tend to have the biggest effect on first impressions. If you plan to stay, begin with the surface that bothers you most.
Why choose a painter who also fixes walls
A painter who only paints has to live with the wall they are given. We can correct it first, and the result is a surface that takes paint evenly and looks flat in daylight.

Painting questions
How do I choose a paint sheen?
Flat or matte hides wall flaws and suits ceilings and low-traffic rooms. Eggshell and satin are easier to wipe clean and work in living areas and hallways. Semi-gloss is common on trim, doors, kitchens and baths, but shows every imperfection.
Do you paint ceilings and trim too?
Yes. Ceilings, trim, doors and cabinets can be painted as part of a room. Tell us what you want included when you call so the quote reflects it.
How long does paint take to dry between coats?
Many modern paints are touch-dry within an hour or two and ready for a second coat within a few hours, but humidity and thick coats slow that. Exterior work also depends on weather.
Do I need primer?
Primer is needed on bare drywall, patched areas, stains, bare wood and when changing from a dark to a light color. Painting over sound, previously painted walls in a similar color may not require it.
Can you match the color I already have?
Often yes, using a sample from the wall. Older paint fades, so repainting a whole wall from corner to corner is better than touching up one spot.
